Job Type: Two-year pilot project with the possibility of extension Position Summary:
We are hiring an Outreach Worker to oversee services for male and male-identifying victims of violence. This role will oversee male clients impacted by violence, providing confidential one-on-one support, information and follow-up services. It is essential that applicants have significant experience working with men. We will provide training on family violence and working with those impacted by abuse. The Outreach Worker may participate in broader work within the community, such as committees or other partnerships.
This position will work out of our Charlottetown and Summerside offices, with the schedule negotiable.
Principle Responsibilities and Accountability: Assessment of client needs Provide information and support to individuals who are or have been in abusive relationships Offer appropriate referrals to other agencies or services Accompany clients to other appointments (financial assistance, Victim Services, Court, etc.) when requested Provide support groups and self-help groups as required Advocate or liaise with other community services and other professionals as required
Prevention and Awareness Building: Participate in community committees as required Promote FVPS as a referral source to the community and other agencies and professionals Engage with communities in prevention activities and programs
Administration: Write reports as required. Keep appropriate documentation on the services provided. Participate in meetings with Outreach Coordinators from across the Province.
Other Responsibilities: Participate in staff meetings, clinical consultation sessions, performance evaluation, and staff training opportunities. Maintain awareness of FVPS’s other services, programs, and projects.
Keep informed of other community services available. Keep current in the area of family violence and its impacts.
Education and Experience: A university degree in Social Work or Counseling is preferable. A diploma in human services from a recognized college. Or combination of experience and training.
Experience: Have five years of experience in human services with men and/or male-identifying clients
Skills and Knowledge: Possess active and empathetic listening skills Good verbal and written communication skills Have ability to work independently and as part of a team Be organized and adaptable Have non-judgmental attitudes and beliefs Have a commitment to personal growth and development Have the ability to provide social justice analysis on issues like violence, poverty, etc. Have good assessment and case management skills Excellent working knowledge and application of Windows OS, Microsoft Office, Power point, cloud-based storage systems and the internet
This position works in an office environment with subject matter requiring a high degree of confidentiality. In addition, the Outreach Worker is required to meet with clients in a variety of community settings, which may require significant travel. The Outreach Worker must be able to interact with people from all economic, educational and cultural backgrounds.
Outreach Coordinator must be able to work flexible hours.
Wage: $20.18-24.85 per hour
